A life with love is a life that’s been lived.
~ Ed Sheeran
I’ve noticed something…
The world looks different than it did just five years ago; it’s meaner. But I don’t need to tell you that. You can see it. You can feel it.
But I’ve noticed something…
We don’t like it very much and we’re trying to escape it.
The #1 new show on TV is NBC’s “This Is Us.” The characters are both relatable and believable and the topics couldn’t be more true to life. People really do die from cancer, struggle with weight, regret and guilt. People really do suffer from depression and anxiety. People really don’t have perfect families. And people really do forgive. People really are strong and courageous. People really do love.
I’ve noticed something…
We’re packing theaters to see movies like Manchester By The Sea, Fences, Hidden Figures, Moonlight, Collateral Beauty, and Lion.
Real.
Strength.
Courage.
Love.
I’ve noticed something…
This week I talked to the mother of an adorable little boy named Jax. The Louisville five-year-old hatched a sneaky plan. He told his mother he wanted his hair shaved really short so that his teacher wouldn’t be able to tell him apart from his best friend, Reddy. He thought his idea was hilarious. His mother agreed. She also realized that hate and prejudice are taught. The only difference Jax saw between himself and his friend was their hair. This simple little story went viral. It was on CNN, FOX and The Today Show. So, why do we love this story? “I guess with all the hate in the world today, we could use this lesson from a five-year-old,” said Jax’s mom, Lydia. “It’s about friendship and love and the innocence of children.”
I’ve notice something…
Ed Sheeran went straight to number one with his new record ‘Divide.’His lyrics include lines like, “Spread your wings as you go, when God takes you back He’ll say Hallelujah, you’re home” and “Had my first kiss on a Friday night, I don’t reckon that I did it right, but I was younger then, take me back to when.”
Real.
Truth.
Love.
I noticed something…and I hope it continues. We’ve strayed. We’ve strayed far. The world has gotten meaner. And we don’t like it very much.
